NEW RELIGIOUS ORDER
COMES TO DIOCESE OF DERRY
The Sisters of St. John have established
a new convent in our diocese and will be formally
welcomed by Bishop Hegarty on Monday 1st October at
10.00am Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. There
will be a cup of tea after Mass. All are welcome to
attend. The Sisters have a temporary convent at 10
Belvoir Park, Culmore (Tel. 71353414 from 2pm-4.30pm
and from 7.30pm-9.00pm)
The sisters are contemplative-their lives are dedicated
to prayer, rather than pastoral ministry. Their intention
is to build a new convent in the diocese.
The Sisters may be phoned at the above times and
they welcome visitors who wish to speak with a Sister
from Monday to Friday 2pm until 5.00pm.
Mass is celebrated in the convent on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays at 8.30am and on Saturdays at 4.00pm.
Evening Prayer is from Monday to Friday 5.45pm. Eucharistic
Adoration is on Monday Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
from 6.15pm until 7.15pm. Thursday 7.00pm-9.00pm and
Saturday 9am-3.30pm. All are welcome to Mass, Evening
Prayer and Eucharistic Adoration.
SUNDAY MASS TIMES
Now that we have reached the end of September, The
weekend Mass times will continue at: Saturday Vigil
6.00pm.
Sunday: 9.30am, 11.15am and 12.30pm
These are the times that have been in place for the
summer months for the past number of years and we
will continue with this schedule for the rest of the
year.
The Mass at 9.30am replaces the former arrangement
when there were Masses at 9.00am and 10.00am. from
October to June.
As in previous years children from our two primary
schools Holy Family and St. Eithne’s will continue
to participate in the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful
and Offertory Procession but now they will take part
in the 11.15am Mass.
The children from the two schools will be involved
on alternate months as before except on the Sundays
which co-incide with a school holiday.
The school choirs will sing and provide the music
for the Mass on one Sunday during the month that the
school is on
Our 11.15am church choir will sing and provide music
on the other Sundays. We are grateful for the co-operation
of everyone affected by this change in arrangements
and we welcome any comments as we move through the
different stages of the year and see how this change
works out.
